Writer Peter Bowker has reworked Bronte's story, introducing a scene verging on sado-masochism where Heathcliff as an adopted orphan is brutally whipped by the wealthy snob Hindley Burn Gorman. Bowker has also put in a scene in which Heathcliff takes Hindley's fortune through a card game and there is a passionate love-making scene on screen between Heathcliff and Cathy.
You're very rarely thinking about anything to do with passion. Either that or you're nervous. After that, the embarrassment was out there and it was much easier to do it. Charlotte's father, Michael, is an engineer who runs his own business with her brother Simon, who's ten years older.
Her mother, Margaret, is a haematology nurse and bereavement counsellor. They live in Co. Durham and Charlotte remained close to home while at university in Durham, studying English.
In a two-year break between Durham and a London acting course, Charlotte taught drama to disabled children. Looking back on Wuthering Heights, Charlotte says: 'It was fun, but very hard work and the pressure was particularly great as it was my first big role. I went on holiday with my family to Portugal, where I slept pretty much the entire week.
Amusing: Charlotte confessed the love scenes - particularly with Andrew Lincoln - were funny rather than passionate. The views expressed in the contents above are those of our users and do not necessarily reflect the views of MailOnline.

After an accidental meeting with elegant gentleman Edgar Linton, she falls in love. To Hindley's delight, this drives Heathcliff away. Quotes Heathcliff : [bending over Cathy's coffin] You said I'd killed you Dykes Lyrics by Reginald Heber. User reviews 56 Review. Top review. Excellent Wuthering Heights but the best? The original classic movie of Wuthering Heights, with Olivier and Oberon, is excellent for its time. However, this version only depicts the basic plot.
Newer versions are more elaborate. This story centers on Heathcliff and is about deep love between Heathcliff and Cathy, love lost, Heathcliff's bitter and deep anger over this, Heathcliff's blame for the love loss on the Cathy as well as on class exclusion, and revenge toward all those involved in the lost love.
An essential element is for the movie to depict Heathcliff's bitterness and immense vengeful anger. Now in order for the immense anger to be explained, the prior deep love between Heathcliff and Cathy must be fully depicted.
I think the and movie versions are the best. Both are excellent but both are flawed. The version with Ralph Fiennes is better organized and time-sequenced. This version emphasizes the bitterness, anger and vengefulness of the main character, Heathcliff, as superbly depicted by Fiennes. The flaw is that the early love between Cathy and Heathcliff is shown in a skimpy and summary manner. This is a flaw since this deep love needs a full and detailed portrayal in order to explain Heathcliff's later deep bitterness.
As a result Fiennes' Heathcliff is a terrible fellow whose behavior is somewhat inexcusable. The version with Tom Hardy is slightly convoluted, and lightens Heathcliff's vengefulness making Heathcliff more of sympathetic character to the viewer , which is a flaw compared to the Fiennes version that properly displays Heathcliff's revenge.
However, the Hardy version does portray the early love between Heathcliff and Cathy with due elaboration which is lacking in the version. As a result Heathcliff is more of a tragic figure than a villain. An ideal version would be the Fiennes version, with the deep vengeful anger as Fiennes displayed, but that also fully depicted the love as did the Hardy version.
