Who is cephas in 1 corinthians 15
Now Paul begins to do two things. First, he wants to establish that he's far from the only apostle to teach that Jesus walked out of his tomb physically alive in a physical body. This same truth is taught by all the apostles, because they all saw Christ in person after He died. He was not resuscitated from a state of being not fully dead but resurrected.
One evidence of the resurrection is the actions of those who personally saw the resurrected Christ. We can hardly believe it was the same fellow. It is a deep encouragement to those out of fellowship that the Lord will use them greatly after they have repented from a fall. How could He have been seen by the twelve, since Judas had hung himself and it is believed that Thomas had already fled?
Anthony, they replaced Judas Iscariot with another disciple. Note after the resurrection there were twelve disciples, Act ff. Next he appeared to the twelve apostles. International Standard Version and he was seen by Cephas, and then by the Twelve.
New Heart English Bible and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Weymouth New Testament and was seen by Peter, and then by the Twelve. World English Bible and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Young's Literal Translation and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve, Additional Translations Paul would be checking the "no thank you" box on both of those. This jives with the gospel account: Matthew 8 mentions that Peter has a mother-in-law.
Paul drops this tidbit, too: after Jesus was crucified, "he was raised on the third day [and he] appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve" 1 Corinthians This is a little off. All four gospels show Jesus appearing first to his female followers. Why no love for the ladies, Paul?
