Should i go infantry or mp
Your MOS doesn't matter as long as you get an Honorable. I wouldn't enlist in any branch of the service on an open contract. The day I enlisted I was told all the jobs are spoken for until October when they will release the new jobs.
So while I am in open contract now, I plan to get something added to it before signing my shipping forms and going to Recruit Training.
Although I'm probably not going to reply to each post individually, I assure you I have reread these posts several times and will answer any questions. Very interesting perspectives, especially from those who have done both.
You could go open contract on anything back in Most people I went to boot camp with on an open were either cooks or Motor T. Guess it all depends on what they need at the time. Right now the Marine Corps is at capacity anyone enlisting me included right now is going almost every time "open contract. They are processing people in a certain order, mainly senior's in high school first since they are graduating here very soon.
I love em both, I will say as an Infantryman, I did more as far as assaulting buildings, rappeling, Breaching with flashbangs, grenads, etc.. Basically all the close quarters combat you can want, and more!!! Frank Sector. Get whichever job you want on your contract. In the Army you can sometimes get a hook up and get Airborne School or a choice of duty station. I was Army Infantry for 7 years and let me give you the rundown on what I did while I was in. I trained to kill things.
I dreamed about killing things. I went to cool schools. I dreamed about going to other cool schools. I deployed. I dreamed about deploying somewhere else. I thought about college but I did not have any time for it. I met some of the best men who I still keep in contact with to this day. I learned so many things about myself and what I am capable of that everything I do and see now is child's play. I did all of the things the cool recruiting videos show except scuba.
My goal in entering the Army was to kill things and blow sheet up and I did. You will most likely NOT get any chance to physically attend college as an infantryman.
They did not have online courses in my day but now you can complete college courses even over the internet in a combat zone. I know this because my brother is doing it right now in Iraq he is a support pogue.
I love the infantry but I still respect all other MOS's. Vanessa Guillen disappeared at Fort Hood, Texas. Investigators later said Guillen was bludgeoned to death on base by a fellow soldier. Seven other Fort Hood soldiers have been found dead so far in after being reported missing, leading to complaints that MPs there are not properly investigating missing people cases.
Interactions with police officers are more often being captured on video, which means the world has been able to witness instances of police brutality and abuse. But video recording, unlike audio recording, is often prohibited on many areas of military bases, so troops interacting with military police might not even think to record. Cell phone cameras, dashboard cams, and police body cameras are a big reason more police interactions have been coming into public light and scrutiny.
Related: Police killings are more likely among law enforcement agencies that receive military gear, data shows.
In , Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, was the first military installation to implement a body camera program throughout its Provost Marshal, or military police, office, according to the Marine Corps. They talked to us a lot about their training, policies, and procedures, and some of the great results they were seeing. Though his unit did not have body cams when he was there it does now , the Marine MP veteran said he often used an audio tape recorder at traffic stops for his own protection and to back up his reports.
But as veterans leave the military and become civilian police, problems have arisen. After eight years in the military, Derek Chauvin left with the rank of specialist—one step up from a private first class and one below a sergeant.
Many places, including Texas—where Hutson was hired while she was still into her eight years in the Navy Reserve—put a premium on hiring veterans in their police departments. That group consists of both veterans who served as MPs as well as in other job specialties, such as infantry or communications. But does a military veteran necessarily bring a better background into a civilian police department?
A small West Virginia town, for example, recently picked up a military mine-resistant ambush protected tactical vehicle —designed to fight improvised explosive device attacks. And with increased militarization comes increased violent behavior by police officers, research has shown.
Though largely unstudied, there is reason to believe veterans may also bring more force with them to civilian law enforcement. Researchers at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Dallas published a study in the Journal of Public Health in finding that cops who were military veterans were more likely to discharge their weapons than their nonveteran cop counterparts.
Some of them are pretty heinous. Commandant Gen. The cost savings will be used to pay for high-tech equipment leaders say Marines will need to counter China, Russia, Iran and others. Eric Smith, the head of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, said the decision to cut or reduce some missions doesn't mean leathernecks who serve in those fields aren't important. I used them in and around Ramadi and in and around Fallujah [in Iraq]. They paid their dues in blood, right? These are Marine warriors from the Korean War to now.
Berger said last month no one would be forced out because of the changes. Force Design , he said, "is intentionally drawn out over time so we can make the right decisions. Thomas said manpower officials have briefed commanders across the fleet on the MOS closures and cuts.
Monitors and occupational field sponsors are working with impacted units, he said, "to ensure Marines have all the information necessary to help them make informed decisions about their future.
